Tickets

How much do tickets cost?
General Admission tickets are $25.

Can I buy tickets on the day of the event?
 A limited number of tickets will be available at the box office, but advance purchase is strongly recommended to guarantee your spot.

What does my ticket include?
 Tickets include access to all talks and performances, the post-event networking reception, and a digital event program.

Can I get a refund if I cannot attend?
 Refunds are typically available until one week before event. Details will be provided during ticket purchase.

Speakers and Performers

Who will be speaking at TEDxThirdWard?
 
The event will feature 6 speakers and 2 performers. The lineup will be announced closer to the event date, highlighting diverse voices aligned with the theme "Dream. Dare. Do."

How are speakers selected?
 
Speakers are chosen through an open application process. Submissions are reviewed by a panel to ensure alignment with TEDx guidelines and the event theme.

What is the time limit for talks?
 Talks are limited to approximately 15 minutes, following TEDx guidelines.

Can I apply to speak or perform?
 Yes! Visit our Speaker Recruitment Page to apply. Submissions should include a brief summary of your idea and a 4-minute video introducing yourself.

What happens after I’m selected as a speaker?
 Selected speakers will receive full support, including:

  • A three-week coaching program with one-on-one and group feedback sessions.

  • Two rehearsals, including a dress rehearsal on stage.

  • Peer and mentor feedback to refine their ideas and presentation.

Event Details

What is the schedule for the event?
 
The event will feature two sessions of talks and performances, followed by a networking reception. A detailed schedule will be shared closer to the event.

Will there be food or drinks?
 
Yes! Light refreshments will be provided during the post-event reception. We’re also partnering with local vendors to bring food, drinks, or pop-ups to the event.

What is the dress code?
 TEDxThirdWard is casual, but we encourage attendees to dress in a way that makes them feel confident and comfortable.

Can I take photos or record the talks?
 
Photography and personal recordings are welcome, as long as they don’t disrupt the event. Flash photography and large equipment are prohibited.

Will the event be live-streamed?
 
Details about the virtual experience are still being finalized. Stay tuned for updates on virtual ticket options.

Is parking available at the venue?
 
Parking options, public transit accessibility, and venue seating capacity will be announced when the venue is finalized. Public transit options will also be highlighted in attendee communications.

When should I arrive?
 We recommend arriving 30 minutes early to allow time for registration and seating.

Accessibility

Is the venue accessible for individuals with disabilities?
 
Yes, the venue will be fully accessible, including accommodations for individuals with disabilities. For specific needs, such as ASL interpreters or seating assistance, please inform us during registration or contact us at info@tedxthirdward.com.

Will there be accommodations for hearing or vision impairments?
 
Yes, accommodations such as closed captioning or ASL interpreters will be provided upon request. Please inform us of your needs when you register.

Volunteers and Sponsors

Can I volunteer at TEDxThirdWard?
 Yes! Volunteers are essential to our success. Join one of our virtual volunteer meetings held every Saturday at 6:00 PM CST through the event date. Visit our Volunteer Page for more information.

What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
 
Examples include ushering, registration support, and assisting with technical needs on event day.

Reception and Networking

What happens during the reception?
 
The post-event reception offers a chance to network, meet speakers, and reflect on the ideas shared. We’ll also honor Third Ward trailblazers and celebrate the community’s history and future with interactive displays and installations.

Can I meet the speakers?
 Yes! Many speakers will attend the reception for informal discussions and networking.

Post-Event Engagement

Will talks be recorded and available after the event?
 Yes! Recordings of the talks will be made available to the public the week after the event.

Are there follow-up events planned?
 
Yes! We’re planning a speaker Q&A event featuring some of the TEDxThirdWard speakers. Virtual or in-person follow-up events may also be organized as part of our ongoing initiative.

Miscellaneous

Can I bring children to the event?
 While TEDxThirdWard is open to all ages, the content is designed for an adult audience. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

 TEDxThirdWard is an independently organized TEDx event happening in Houston’s Third Ward. With the theme "Dream. Dare. Do." the event showcases talks and performances that inspire curiosity, spark action, and foster collaboration.

Who is organizing TEDxThirdWard?
 TEDxThirdWard is led by Durrel Douglas, Lead Organizer, supported by a team of passionate committee co-chairs and volunteers.

When and where is the event?
 TEDxThirdWard will take place in October of 2025,Time TBD. The venue is Midtown Arts and Theater Center, Houston.

What is the theme of TEDxThirdWard?
 "Dream. Dare. Do." invites attendees to imagine bold possibilities, take risks, and turn ideas into action.

What makes TEDxThirdWard unique?
 
TEDxThirdWard celebrates the optimistic potential of global ideas while honoring the history, present, and future of Houston’s Third Ward. This includes honoring local trailblazers at the reception, a “Walk of Fame” installation at the venue, and video vignettes showcasing Third Ward’s rich legacy.
